Restoran Char Siew Yoong KL: Warning! Roast Pork Sells Out Fast

We took a Grab all the way just to try the char siew and siew yoke from Char Siew Yoong. It is located along a stretch of old shop eateries, and this unassuming shop quietly hides one of the best char siew spots in KL. When I visited Char Siew Yoong, I finally understood why so many people were talking about it online.

When I reached the shop, there was already a long queue forming even before lunch hour. The crowd kept growing, and you could immediately tell this was one of those places people were genuinely willing to wait for. Some customers were buying takeaway in large portions while others were patiently waiting for a table just to enjoy the roast meats fresh from the kitchen. The atmosphere felt busy but exciting, almost like everyone already knew they were about to eat something special.

The first thing that caught my attention was the char siew hanging beautifully behind the counter. The glaze looked shiny and caramelised, with that rich reddish-brown colour that instantly makes you hungry.

We were among the last customers to leave Char Siew Yoong, and the shop was closing shortly after they sold out all their items for the day.

Signature Dish from Char Siew Yoong

Char Siew (BBQ Pork)

The char siew used a perfectly balanced half-fat, half-lean cut, making it incredibly tender and juicy. The outside was coated with a sweet, smoky, caramelised glaze that was packed with flavour, while the inside stayed soft and moist. The layer of fat melted beautifully into the meat, giving every bite a rich and satisfying texture without feeling overly heavy. It was the kind of char siew that made me slow down and truly enjoy every mouthful.

What I liked most was how balanced the flavours were. Some char siew can be overly sweet or too dry, but this one had a perfect combination of sweetness, smokiness, and savoury flavour. You could tell Char Siew Yoong paid close attention to every detail, from the marination right down to the roasting process. Even without any sauce, the char siew was already flavourful enough on its own.

Siew Yoke (Roasted Pork)

The siew yoke was equally memorable. The crispy skin was probably one of the best parts of the entire meal. The moment I bit into it, there was that loud crackling sound that every roast pork lover looks for. The skin was thin, crispy, and incredibly addictive.

Another thing I noticed was how consistent the quality looked. Even though the shop was extremely busy, every plate coming out still looked carefully prepared. The staff worked quickly, but nothing felt rushed. It showed how experienced they were in handling the large crowd every day.

Braised Chicken Feet

Another dish worth mentioning was the braised chicken feet. The feet were braised so well that the meat became super soft and almost melted in the mouth. It was rich, flavourful, and full of that comforting braised taste.

We also tried the homemade barley drink, and it was really refreshing. The highlight wasn’t just the drink itself, but the cute cups it was served in, which made it even more enjoyable.

Come Early to Char Siew Yoong

One thing to note is that coming early to Char Siew Yoong is definitely important. The shop gets crowded very quickly, and the best cuts tend to sell out fast. By the time we finished eating, the queue outside was even longer than before. Thankfully, the food made the wait completely worth it.

If you are a fan of roast meats, Char Siew Yoong is definitely one of those places in Kuala Lumpur that deserves a spot on your food list.
