DoubleTree By Hilton JB is a hotel in Johor Bahru that is conveniently located near Woodlands Checkpoint, making it a popular choice for travellers coming from Singapore.
One of the highlights of my stay was definitely the DoubleTree by Hilton JB breakfast buffet. The breakfast is served at Makan Kitchen, a huge and spacious restaurant with an impressive variety of food. What caught my attention most was the wide selection available, with different cuisines and food stations spread throughout the restaurant. There was so much to explore that I was excited to walk around and see what else was available.

Instead of having all the dishes concentrated in one area, the different cuisines and food stations are spread throughout the restaurant. This makes the DoubleTree by Hilton JB breakfast buffet feel more like a food adventure, as there is always another station to discover.

Breakfast Buffet with Plenty of Choices
The DoubleTree by Hilton JB breakfast buffet offers a wide range of selections, catering to different tastes and preferences.
Whether you prefer a light and healthy breakfast, local Malaysian favourites, Chinese dishes, Western food or something sweet, there is plenty to choose from.
I particularly enjoyed walking around the different stations before deciding what to put on my plate.
Yogurt and Granola Station
One of my favourite sections was the yogurt station.
You can choose your preferred yogurt and then select the granola you want to mix in. I really enjoyed the combination because the creamy yogurt paired nicely with the crunchy granola.
If you find the yogurt a little too sour, there is a honey station nearby where you can choose from several varieties of honey to add some sweetness.

I thought this was a great idea because everyone can customise their yogurt according to their own taste.
Nostalgic Biscuit Corner
Right in front of the yogurt station is a biscuit section that brought back memories of the olden days.

The biscuits are displayed in square tins, just like the traditional biscuit tins we used to see at the mama shops.
There are eight different choices available, so you can pick the type you like and enjoy a little nostalgic treat during breakfast.
Salad Station for Salad Lovers
If you are a salad lover, you will definitely want to check out this section.
There is a wide selection of salad ingredients available for you to mix and match. You can create your own combination depending on what you are in the mood for.

With so many fresh options available, this is a great choice if you prefer to start your morning with something lighter.
Chinese Breakfast, Porridge and Noodles
The Chinese kitchen offers plenty of comforting choices.

For the porridge station, you can start with plain porridge and choose from various toppings to add flavour. It is a simple but comforting breakfast option.
There is also a noodle corner, where you can choose your preferred noodle and soup.

One thing to note is that the staff will add all the ingredients by default. So, if you only want certain ingredients or do not eat particular ingredients, remember to let the staff know when placing your order.
For dim sum lovers, there is also a dim sum corner where you can pick up your favourite selections.
There are two sides of cooked Chinese dishes as well, including chicken bak kut teh, fried vegetables, herbal eggs, fried rice and noodles.
Western Corner and Made-to-Order Eggs
For those who prefer a Western-style breakfast, there is a good selection of breakfast favourites to choose from. One section that caught my attention was the made-to-order egg station at DoubleTree by Hilton JB Makan Kitchen.
There is a helpful list displayed at the station, so you can simply choose how you would like your eggs prepared. The choices include sunny side up, soft-boiled, scrambled, omelette, over-easy and hard-boiled eggs.

DIY Lontong and Nasi Lemak
For those who love Malaysian food, don’t miss the Malay food station.
You can DIY your own lontong and nasi lemak, choosing the ingredients you want to add.
My favourite was the lontong. The gravy was light and flavourful, and I especially enjoyed the rice cake. The rice cake absorbed the gravy beautifully, giving it even more flavour with every bite.
If you enjoy lontong, I would definitely recommend giving this a try.
Cheese, Cereal and Bakery Selection
There is also a selection of cereals, granola and different types of milk, making it easy to put together a simple breakfast.

Cheese lovers will also have plenty to choose from, with six different types of cheese available at the cheese station.

Another section that caught my attention was the bakery display. The pastries were arranged beautifully and looked incredibly appetising. It was definitely tempting to pick up a few pastries to try.

Ice Cream for Breakfast?
One of the most surprising things I discovered at the DoubleTree by Hilton JB breakfast buffet was an ice cream station.
This was actually the first time I had come across an ice cream section at a hotel breakfast buffet.

There was also a good selection of toppings, allowing you to customise your own ice cream. For those who enjoy something sweet after breakfast, this is definitely a fun addition.
There is also a fruit station and there is wide range of fruits for selections.

Together with compotes and purees, giving you even more choices for your breakfast. So far, DoubleTree by Hilton JB is the only hotel breakfast buffet where I have seen this, and I thought it was such an interesting addition to the breakfast spread.

DoubleTree by Hilton JB Teh Tarik Push Cart
Another highlight is teh tarik push cart by DoubleTree by Hilton JB.

Sometimes, you may see the staff at the cart pulling the teh tarik for guests. It adds a nice Malaysian touch to the breakfast experience and is something I enjoyed seeing during my meal.
For me, having teh tarik at a Malaysian hotel breakfast buffet just feels right! DoubleTree by Hilton JB also provide kopi tarik too.
DoubleTree by Hilton JB the Family-Friendly Hotel
Another feature that I really appreciated about DoubleTree by Hilton JB breakfast place was the kids’ playroom.

If you are travelling with children, this can be a big bonus. The kids can head into the playroom and entertain themselves while parents take their time enjoying breakfast.
Instead of rushing through your meal because the kids are getting bored, you can enjoy a more relaxed breakfast while they have their own space to play.
Final Thoughts: Is DoubleTree by Hilton JB Breakfast Worth Trying?
Overall, I was impressed by the DoubleTree by Hilton JB breakfast buffet. The sheer variety of food available means you can easily spend quite a bit of time exploring the different stations.
From yogurt and granola, nostalgic biscuits and fresh salads to Chinese porridge, noodles, dim sum, Malay favourites, pastries, cheese, fruits and even ice cream, there is plenty to choose from.
My personal favourites were the yogurt with granola, DIY lontong and the ice cream station. I especially enjoyed the lontong because the rice cake absorbed the light and flavourful gravy so well.
The spacious breakfast restaurant, wide variety of cuisines and kids’ playroom also make this a particularly convenient option for families.
