Looking for Kok Sen Restaurant in Singapore and wondering what to order? Established in 1965, Kok Sen Restaurant is a long-standing favourite for Cantonese cuisine, attracting both locals and tourists. The restaurant has also received the Michelin Bib Gourmand for nine consecutive years from 2016 to 2025, making it a well-known name among Singapore’s food lovers.

During our visit to Kok Sen Restaurant, we ordered several dishes, including some of the restaurant’s popular specialties. Here are my thoughts on what we tried and the dishes that stood out to me.
Golden Dragon Chicken is My Favourite Dish
Kok Sen Restaurant‘s Golden Dragon Chicken was the highlight of our meal and, without a doubt, my favourite dish.

I really wondered how the chef of Kok Sen Restaurant makes this dish because it is so unique and unforgettable. The chicken is flattened and made very thin, with a mixture of squid and chicken, together with the crispy roasted chicken skin. When you bite into it, you first get the fragrance and crispiness of the chicken skin, followed by the sweetness of the squid and the texture of the chicken.

For me, the combination was quite unusual. It reminded me a little of a fish fillet or sotong (squid) ball, but with crispy roasted chicken skin. It is definitely not the typical chicken dish you come across every day.
If you are visiting Kok Sen Restaurant for the first time, I would definitely recommend giving this dish a try. Do leave me a comment and let me know what you think after you’ve tried it!
Sweet and Sour Pork
The Sweet and Sour Pork was crispy on the outside with a pleasant sweet and sour flavour. I liked that it was not too sweet, so the sauce did not overpower the dish.

It was a familiar Cantonese favourite that went well with the other dishes.
Minced Pork Omelette
The Minced Pork Omelette was simple and comforting, but what caught my attention was the generous amount of minced pork in the egg. You can clearly see plenty of minced meat packed into the omelette, giving it a savoury and hearty bite. The combination of egg and savoury minced pork makes this the kind of dish that is easy to enjoy with rice and share with the family.

Beansprout Stir-Fried with Salted Fish
The Beansprout Stir-Fried with Salted Fish had a savoury flavour from the salted fish, while the beansprouts added a nice crunchy texture. They also added capsicum, mushrooms and spring onions, which not only brought more flavour to the dish but also made it look more colourful and appetising. I liked the combination of textures, especially the crunchiness of the beansprouts together with the other ingredients.

It was also a good vegetable dish to have alongside the meat and seafood dishes.
Fish Meat Soup
The Fish Meat Soup was flavourful and savoury, with a light, comforting broth that was easy to enjoy. You can see the generous amount of leafy vegetables in the soup.

I especially liked having it with rice, as the savoury soup paired well with the rice. If you enjoy having a bowl of soup with your meal, this is a comforting choice to consider.

Dry Beef Hor Fun
The Dry Beef Hor Fun is best enjoyed while it is still hot. The hor fun had the fragrant wok hei, giving it that smoky aroma and flavour that makes stir-fried noodles so enjoyable.

Yam Ring
The Yam Ring was crispy on the outside while the yam inside was soft and nicely cooked. I also liked that the yam was not too dry, making it easy to enjoy with the filling and other ingredients on top. The Yam Ring was generously topped with prawns, mushrooms, snow peas, carrots, baby corns and cashew nuts, giving the dish a good variety of textures and flavours. The crispy noodles around the base also added an extra crunch to every bite.

Black Bean Slice Fish Bee Hoon
The Black Bean Slice Fish Bee Hoon had a distinctive taste of its own. This is probably one of those dishes where personal preference comes into play, as I don’t think everyone will enjoy the flavour.

Still, it was interesting to try something different from the usual bee hoon dishes.

Is Kok Sen Restaurant Worth Trying?
For me, the Golden Dragon Chicken was the standout dish and the main reason I would remember this meal. Its combination of thin flattened chicken, sotong and crispy chicken skin was something I had not tried before.
