A Variety of Malaysian Food at Nan Yang Dao

One thing I like about the menu at Nan Yang Dao is the variety. There are different noodle dishes, rice meals, local snacks and refreshing drinks, making it easy for everyone to find something they enjoy.

For our meal, we ordered several main dishes so that we could try different flavours instead of sticking to just one item.

Penang Fried Kway Teow

If you love Malaysian hawker food, Penang fried kway teow is a familiar favourite. This dish is a popular choice for anyone who enjoys a plate of stir-fried flat rice noodles with that distinctive Malaysian-style taste.

It is one of the dishes to consider if you are craving Penang food in Singapore without having to travel all the way to Penang.

KL Fried Crispy Egg Noodle with Creamy Egg Sauce

Another dish we ordered was the KL fried crispy egg noodle with creamy egg sauce. What makes this dish interesting is the contrast between the crispy noodles and the smooth, creamy egg sauce.

If you enjoy noodle dishes with different textures, this is one to consider. The combination gives you something a little different from the usual fried noodles.

Scallion Oil Pan-Fried Chicken Chop with Fried Rice

One of the value-for-money options is the scallion oil pan-fried chicken chop with fried rice and mushroom sauce, priced at just $10.90.

For the price of $10.90, the portion is quite generous, making it a filling option for those who prefer a rice meal over noodles. Big eaters can enjoy it all by themselves, while those with smaller appetites can consider sharing it with a friend. It is a value-for-money option if you are looking for an affordable lunch or dinner around PLQ!

Nanyang Mee Siam

For those who enjoy mee siam, Nan Yang Dao also offers a dried version of this popular local favourite. Compared to the Scallion Oil Pan-Fried Chicken Chop with Fried Rice, this dish is a lighter option, yet still satisfying enough to fill my tummy. It is a good choice if you prefer something less heavy but still want to enjoy a flavourful noodle dish.

More Malaysian Favourites to Try

Besides the four main dishes, we also ordered Penang lobak and Penang pasar malam fried carrot cake for sharing.

Penang Lobak
Penang lobak is a popular Penang-style snack made with seasoned meat wrapped in beancurd skin and deep-fried until golden brown. In Singapore, we normally call it as Ngoh Hiang. It is a great choice to share with family and friends, especially if you enjoy traditional Malaysian snacks.

Penang Pasar Malam Fried Carrot Cake
Unlike the Singapore version, which is commonly served in white or black, Penang pasar malam fried carrot cake is savoury and is commonly fried with bean sprouts and eggs. The combination gives the dish a delicious savoury flavour, while the bean sprouts add a little crunch to the soft radish cake.

Refreshing Drinks to Go with Your Meal

To accompany our food, we ordered a few refreshing drinks to go along with our meal, including lemon lime juice, lychee drink, longan grass jelly drink and an iced Milo ice cream float. Each drink offers a different flavour, whether you prefer something citrusy, fruity or a sweet Milo treat.

Lemon Lime Juice
If you love drinks that are slightly sour yet refreshing, the lemon lime juice is a good choice. The citrusy taste makes it a refreshing drink to enjoy alongside your meal.

Lychee Drink
The lychee drink is equally refreshing and comes with three big lychees! If you enjoy fruity drinks with a sweet taste, this is one to consider.

Longan Grass Jelly Drink
The longan grass jelly drink offers a refreshing combination of longan and grass jelly. The grass jelly adds an extra texture to the drink, making each sip more interesting.

Iced Milo Ice Cream Float
For those who love both Milo and ice cream, the Iced Milo Ice Cream Float is worth trying! It combines the familiar chocolate malt flavour of Milo with a scoop of ice cream, topped with a sprinkle of Milo powder for an extra touch of chocolatey goodness. It is a delightful treat for anyone who enjoys this classic combination!

I personally like the Longan Grass Jelly Drink the best! What about you? Which drink would you choose at Nan Yang Dao? Let me know in the comments!

Best-Seller Chendol for a Sweet Ending

Of course, we could not end our meal without dessert at Nan Yang Dao.

We ordered Nan Yang Dao’s best-selling chendol for a sweet ending. Chendol is a popular Southeast Asian dessert, especially loved for its combination of shaved ice, green jelly strands, coconut milk and Gula Melaka (palm sugar) which adds a rich, caramel-like sweetness to the dessert. Its fragrant sweetness pairs well with the creamy coconut milk, making it a delightful treat for those who enjoy local desserts.
