If you are looking for a place to enjoy Japanese-style steak in Yishun, Yappari Steak Northpoint City is one place worth checking out. Located at Northpoint City, this steakhouse is popular enough that there was already a queue when we visited. We initially had our eyes on one particular dish but ended up discovering some delicious alternatives instead.
Super Chicken Steak Was Sold Out
I actually wanted to try their Super Chicken Steak, which is exclusively available at Yappari Steak Northpoint City. It is described as a crunchy, juicy and monstrous-sized chicken steak set that comes with Japanese rice, soup and salad.
Unfortunately, it was sold out when we visited. Since we were already there, we decided to try some of their other dishes instead, including the Sagari Steak 200g, 2-piece Hamburg Steak, Yappari Steak 200g, Garlic Butter Rice and Foie Gras.
We also tried their Truffle Cheese Fondue, which was originally $8.80 but was available for just $3.80 with the purchase of any steak set. For truffle and cheese lovers, this was definitely worth trying.
Cook Your Steak Your Way
One thing I like is the variety of condiments available for the steak.
You can choose from wasabi, garlic, teriyaki sauce, black pepper, onion sauce, garlic sauce, spicy shoyu, spicy miso, salt, mixed spice, chilli sauce and ketchup.
There is quite a selection, so you can mix and match the sauces according to your preference.
They also provide an apron for you to wear while cooking your steak. Since the steak is served on a hot plate and you are cooking it yourself, the apron is a thoughtful touch to help prevent oil or sauce from splashing onto your clothes.
Garlic Butter Rice
The Garlic Butter Rice was packed with garlic fragrance and had a lovely buttery taste. It reminded me a little of the Pepper Lunch experience because you get to “cook” your rice yourself.
The rice comes on a mini hot plate, and you simply mix everything together while it is still sizzling. The combination of fragrant garlic and butter made the rice really satisfying, especially when eaten together with the steak.
2-Piece Hamburg Steak
We also ordered the 2-Piece Hamburg Steak, which was a nice alternative for those who prefer a softer and more comforting style of beef compared to a traditional steak.
Having two pieces also makes it easy to enjoy them with different sauces and seasonings. With the variety of condiments available, you can try each piece with a different combination to see which flavour you like best.
Yappari Steak vs Sagari Steak
Between the 200g Yappari Steak and 200g Sagari Steak, I personally preferred the Yappari Steak.
I found the Yappari Steak juicier and more tender, and I really liked its texture. It tasted even better when dipped into the sauces, which brought out the flavour of the steak even more.
The Sagari Steak was decent and juicy too.
However, if you prefer the texture of tenderloin, you may enjoy the Sagari Steak more. Its texture has a nice tenderness that tenderloin lovers may appreciate.
We also ordered the Foie Gras, which is something you need to cook carefully. If you can get it nicely browned and crispy on the outside while keeping the inside tender and juicy, it tastes really good.
Don’t Miss the Truffle Cheese Fondue
The Truffle Cheese Fondue was probably one of my favourite surprises from the meal.
When the plate was first placed on the table, the truffle aroma felt quite strong to me. However, once I started dipping the steak into the truffle cheese, I was pleasantly surprised.
The creamy cheese and truffle flavour complemented the steak really well and brought out the taste of the meat. I really enjoyed it!
If you are a truffle and cheese lover, I would say this is worth giving a try. For me, I definitely did not regret ordering it.
Every steak set comes with free-flow rice, salad and soup, which makes the meal even more satisfying.
Overall, Yappari Steak Northpoint City is a fun place to enjoy steak where you can cook your meat your way, experiment with different sauces and try something a little different.
The Super Chicken Steak may have been sold out during our visit, but the Steaks, Garlic Butter Rice and Truffle Cheese Fondue made the visit worthwhile.
If Northpoint City is too far for you, there is also another outlet at VivoCity, so you can enjoy Yappari Steak at a location that is more convenient for you.
