I started my meal at BistrOne36 with the Seafood Lobster Bisque. I was expecting something similar to the lobster bisque served at Jack’s Place, but I was wrong. BistrOne36’s version is quite different.
Instead of focusing purely on the soup itself, they generously pack it with a variety of seafood ingredients, making every spoonful more hearty and satisfying. The rich bisque is complemented by the abundance of seafood, adding both texture and flavour to the dish. If you’re someone who enjoys soups loaded with ingredients rather than just a creamy broth, this is one bowl you’ll likely appreciate.
Next, was the Pollock Fish and Chips. One thing I liked is that they do not use the commonly found dory fish. Instead, they use pollock fish, which has a firmer texture and a more natural fish flavour. The crispy batter paired well with the tender fish, making it a satisfying dish for seafood lovers.
However, my favourite dish at BistrOne36 was the Grilled Pork Steak.
Pork can easily become dry and tough if it is overcooked, but they cooked it perfectly. The pork steak was flavourful, juicy, and tender, making every bite enjoyable. It is not easy to cook pork steak this well.
The accompanying portobello mushroom was also excellent, staying soft, juicy, and packed with flavour.
The Main Highlight of BistrOne36
As good as the savoury dishes were, the real highlight of the meal was dessert.
The One36 Chocolate Lava with Vanilla Bean Gelato is easily one of the best chocolate lava cakes I have had. One thing I particularly liked was how the vanilla bean gelato was served separately in a bowl instead of being placed directly on top of the lava cake. This thoughtful presentation prevents the ice cream from melting too quickly, allowing you to enjoy both the warm lava cake and the cold gelato at their best. It also gives you the flexibility to enjoy them separately or combine them together for the perfect balance of rich chocolate and creamy vanilla flavours.
The lava cake arrived warm, and the moment I cut into it with my spoon, the molten chocolate flowed out beautifully from the centre. The chocolate filling was rich and indulgent without being overly heavy, while the sweetness was perfectly balanced.
Pairing the warm chocolate lava with the cold vanilla bean gelato created a wonderful contrast of temperatures and textures. The combination of warm cake, flowing chocolate, and creamy ice cream was simply irresistible.
Honestly, I have not eaten such a good chocolate lava cake for a very long time. It was the perfect ending to an enjoyable meal.
Refreshing Drinks at BistrOne36
I also ordered a couple of refreshing drinks to go along with the meal. For those who enjoy alcoholic beverages, the Mermaid Lemon Drop is worth trying. Its vibrant green colour is eye-catching and makes it look as good as it tastes. More importantly, it is light, refreshing, and easy to enjoy, making it a great drink to accompany your meal.
If you prefer a non-alcoholic option, the Pink Blush is a good choice too, offering a fruity and refreshing taste that pairs well with the food.
If you’re looking for a neighbourhood café that serves quality food without having to travel into the city, BistrOne36 is definitely worth checking out. From the hearty Seafood Lobster Bisque and juicy Grilled Pork Steak to the refreshing drinks and impressive Chocolate Lava Cake, there is plenty to enjoy here.
