GuoMa Shabu Shabu Buffet is a budget-friendly option to consider if you are craving steamboat in Johor Bahru (JB) but don’t want to spend your time waiting in a long queue at some of the more popular steamboat restaurants. With its affordable buffet price and wide variety of ingredients, GuoMa Shabu Shabu Buffet is a convenient choice for a satisfying steamboat meal.
At just RM55++ per adult and RM25++ per child, GuoMa Shabu Shabu Buffet is one of the cheapest steamboat buffet options I have come across in JB. The restaurant offers a good variety of ingredients, drinks and desserts, making it a convenient choice when you are hungry and simply want to enjoy a satisfying steamboat meal without the long wait.
Budget-Friendly GuoMa Shabu Shabu Buffet (锅妈)
One of the things I like about GuoMa Shabu Shabu Buffet is the straightforward buffet concept. You can choose from a variety of vegetables, seafood and meat, allowing everyone at the table to pick their favourite ingredients and cook them in the steamboat.
For families with children, do take note that the child price is based on height rather than age. Children between 90cm and 130cm qualify for the child rate of RM25++. Once your child is over 130cm, they will be charged the adult price of RM55+. So, if you are dining with your kids at GuoMa Shabu Shabu Buffet, this is something to keep in mind when budgeting for your meal.
Flavourful Soup Base
The soup base at GuoMa Shabu Shabu Buffet is another highlight for me. While the soup is already flavourful on its own, I found that it became even more delicious after adding all the different ingredients into the pot.
As the meat, seafood and vegetables cook in the soup, their flavours naturally combine with the broth, making it richer and more flavourful as the meal progresses. For me, this is always one of the enjoyable parts of having steamboat having the soup transform as you cook more ingredients.
GuoMa Shabu Shabu Buffet offers a wide variety of seafood, noodles, balls and vegetables giving you plenty of choices to enjoy with your steamboat.
For meat lovers, there are three types of meat to choose from which are pork, chicken and beef.
DIY My Own Sauce
Besides choosing my favourite steamboat ingredients, GuoMa Shabu Shabu Buffet also has a variety of condiments and sauces for you to create your own dipping sauce.
Whether you prefer something savoury, spicy or more garlicky, there are plenty of options to mix and match according to your taste. I always enjoy making my own sauce because everyone can create a combination that suits their preference.
DIY Braised Pork Rice
One interesting option at GuoMa Shabu Shabu Buffet is the opportunity to DIY your own braised pork rice (lu rou fan). This was especially popular with my girl, who enjoyed making and eating her own bowl.
It is a nice addition to the buffet, especially for those who want something more filling besides steamboat ingredients.
Plenty of Desserts & Drinks
For drinks, there is a selection of cold beverages, including passion fruit juice, lychee juice and blackcurrant juice. If you prefer something warm, you can also have coffee, tea or Milo.
Each person also comes with a choice of hot or cold lemon drink, which is a refreshing accompaniment to the meal.
For dessert, there is a variety of fresh fruits and soya bean curd.
On the other side for the fridge has cakes and guilin gao (herbal jelly).
GuoMa Shabu Shabu Buffet has a surprisingly wide variety of ice cream flavours, and this is something I hardly see at other steamboat restaurants.
When it comes to dessert, I will almost always go for the ice cream and guilin gao. It makes the dessert selection more enjoyable, especially for families with children.
Worth Considering for a Budget Steamboat
Overall, GuoMa Shabu Shabu Buffet is a good option if you are craving steamboat in JB but want something affordable and fuss-free. With its variety of meat, seafood, vegetables, DIY sauces, braised pork rice, drinks and an impressive selection of ice cream, there is plenty to enjoy.
At RM55++ for adults and RM25++ for children between 90cm and 130cm, I find it to be a wallet-friendly choice for a family steamboat meal and they open until 11pm.
So, if you are hungry, craving steamboat and don’t feel like spending your time waiting in a long queue at the more popular places, GuoMa Shabu Shabu Buffet Paradigm Mall JB could be worth a try!
