If I’ve been craving a taste of Taipei without hopping on a plane, Moon Moon Food (雙月食品社) might just be my next obsession. This Michelin Bib Gourmand favourite from Taiwan has landed in Singapore, and it’s bringing along its legendary, soul-soothing chicken soups.
The moment I step in, it already feels like a warm hug—rich aromas, bustling energy, and bowls after bowls of goodness being served.
The Mushroom Chicken Soup stands out with its light, clear broth that’s surprisingly rich without being oily. The natural sweetness comes from hours of simmering high-quality mushrooms and cabbage. Their soups are generous—we’re talking overflowing bowls packed with premium kampong chicken and fresh cabbage.
Before the food even hits my table, my nose tells me what to order. The aroma of their braised items is impossible to ignore. The braised chicken wings! Absolute must-get. Coated in a deep, glossy mahogany glaze, the skin is soft and gelatinous, almost melting on my tongue. Beneath that, the meat stays tender and juicy, soaking up all that savoury soy-based richness. It’s addictive in the best way.
For the Taiwanese Oil Rice, each grain of glutinous rice is perfectly steamed and infused with a fragrant mix of dried shrimp, earthy mushrooms, and crispy fried shallots. It’s savoury, aromatic, and pairs perfectly with the soups and braised dishes.
If you’re in the mood for something light yet comforting, chicken mee sua is a wonderful choice. This humble dish pairs delicate, silky strands of mee sua with a soothing, flavorful broth, often enhanced with tender shredded chicken.
Golden and irresistibly crisp, this plate of fried pork makes an immediate impression. Each piece is coated in a light, airy batter that delivers a satisfying crunch with every bite, giving way to tender, juicy meat inside. Fragrant curry leaves are scattered across the dish, adding a subtle herbal aroma.
