LS Seafood Restaurant JB: A Comfortable Sheltered Dinner Near Tuas Checkpoint

LS Seafood Restaurant at Sunway Big Box became our perfect dinner destination when heavy rain suddenly poured while we were in Johor Bahru. Instead of rushing back to Singapore, we decided to enjoy a relaxing meal before heading home. Since Sunway Big Box is one of the nearest shopping destinations to the Tuas Checkpoint, it was an easy and convenient stop. Best of all, the shopping mall offers plenty of sheltered walkways, allowing us to get from the car to the restaurant without getting drenched.

Among the many dining options available, LS Seafood Restaurant immediately caught our attention. The restaurant offers a spacious and comfortable dining environment, making it an ideal place to escape the rain while enjoying a leisurely meal. The atmosphere was calm and welcoming, with plenty of tables for families and groups. It was exactly the kind of place we were looking for after a long day of travelling.

Orders at LS Seafood Restaurant

Our dinner began with the Braised 5-Head Abalone with Fish Maw (原只5头鲍烩蝴蝶胶) which cost RM68++, a luxurious dish that immediately impressed us. The abalone was tender with a pleasant bite, while the fish maw absorbed the rich, savoury braising sauce beautifully. Every mouthful was packed with flavour, and the thick gravy paired wonderfully with a bowl of steamed rice.

One of the highlights of the evening was definitely the Cod Fish (about 600g at RM160.80++). The fish was fresh, with soft, flaky flesh that practically melted in the mouth. It was cooked just right, allowing the natural sweetness of the cod to shine through without being overwhelmed by heavy seasoning. This was easily one of our favourite dishes of the night.

To complement the seafood dishes, we ordered the Seafood Fried Rice with Garlic Paste (金蒜海洋汇炒饭) at RM28++. At first glance, it looked like a classic Chinese-style fried rice, but it came with an interesting twist. The chef added small cubes of cucumber into the fried rice, giving each spoonful a refreshing crunch that contrasted nicely with the fragrant rice and seafood. It’s certainly a unique way of preparing fried rice and adds an extra layer of texture that you don’t often find.

Personally, I preferred the fried rice without the cucumber cubes. Nevertheless, LS Seafood Restaurant has an interesting combination and something different from the usual seafood fried rice served at most restaurants.

For something comforting on a rainy evening, we had both the Braised Chicken and Fish Maw in Thick Soup (黄焖鸡肉鱼鳔汤) at RM38++ and the Braised Shark’s Fin Soup with Crab Meat (红烧蟹肉金钱翅) at RM48++ at LS Seafood Restaurant.

The Braised Chicken and Fish Maw in Thick Soup had a rich, silky consistency with deep flavours that were perfect for the cool weather outside. The chicken remained tender, while the fish maw added a smooth and luxurious texture.

The Braised Shark’s Fin Soup with Crab Meat was equally enjoyable. Filled with delicate strands of crab meat and sharkfin, the soup was rich, silky consistency with deep flavours.

Another dish worth mentioning at LS Seafood Restaurant was the Traditional Cherry Duck with Black Pepper (古法黑椒樱桃鸭) at RM78++ for half the duck. The duck skin had a lovely roasted aroma, while the meat remained juicy and tender. It was also served with a special dipping sauce that complemented the duck beautifully, adding an extra depth of savoury flavour to every bite.

The combination of the tender duck and the flavourful sauce worked exceptionally well together, making it one of the standout dishes of the meal.

No Chinese-style dinner feels complete without dessert, and we ended our meal with a bowl of Red Dates with Peach Gum (红莲炖桃胶) at LS Seafood Restaurant.

The dessert was served warm, making it especially comforting on a rainy night. The natural sweetness from the red dates blended beautifully with the soft peach gum and silky white fungus, creating a light and nourishing finish to the meal.
