Dim Sum Place at JB City Centre is worth checking out if you are travelling from Singapore to Johor Bahru and looking for a convenient place to enjoy halal dim sum, . This Singapore award-winning restaurant is located near the Woodlands Checkpoint, making it especially convenient for Singaporeans crossing over to JB. From the Woodlands Checkpoint, it is approximately a 5 to 10-minute walk to the restaurant.
One of the things that caught my attention is that Dim Sum Place serves 100% handmade dim sum, with more than 80 varieties available. The restaurant is also halal certified, making it a suitable option for Muslim diners and families looking for a wider choice of halal Chinese cuisine.

What I Have Ordered at Dim Sum Place
Chicken Xiao Long Bao
We started with the Chicken Xiao Long Bao at Dim Sum Place, and this was one of my favourites from the meal. Unlike the usual dumplings that you simply bite into, the Xiao Long Bao was filled with chicken broth inside.

When you bite into it, the warm broth comes out, adding extra flavour and making the dumpling more enjoyable. I would recommend being a little careful when eating it as the broth can spill out.

Chicken Wanton Noodles
We also ordered both the dry and soup versions of the Chicken Wanton Noodles from Dim Sum Place.
The dry Chicken Wanton Noodles were tasty, with noodles that had a nice springy texture.

The sauce coated the noodles well without overpowering the dish, making it a satisfying option if you prefer your noodles with more texture and flavour.

The chicken wanton came with a thin, delicate skin that was flavourful and complemented the savoury chicken filling nicely.

The soup version was also enjoyable. The broth was flavourful and comforting, especially if you prefer something warm and soupy. Having both versions side by side also made it easy to compare the different flavours and textures.

Signature DSP Herbal Duck
Another dish we tried was Dim Sum Place’s Signature DSP Herbal Duck. The duck reminded me of braised duck, but it came with roasted skin that gave the dish an additional layer of texture.

The meat was tender and easy to eat, and what I particularly liked was how well it absorbed the sauce. The herbal flavour was mild and not too strong, allowing the natural taste of the duck to come through while adding a subtle herbal aroma to the dish.

More Handmade Dim Sum
The Crystal Shrimp Dumpling was another highlight for me. The dumpling skin was translucent and delicate, while the shrimp filling was very flavourful. It was a nice choice if you enjoy shrimp-based dim sum.

We also tried the Steamed Chicken Siew Mai. Personally, I found this slightly saltish, but it was still enjoyable when eaten together with the other dishes.

Rose Water with Chia Seeds
Not forgetting the drinks, we ordered a glass of Rose Water with Chia Seeds. This was refreshing, especially with the longan added into the drink.
I found that squeezing some lime into it made the drink even better. The lime helped to balance out the floral sweetness of the rose water and the sweetness from the longan, giving it a more refreshing and well-balanced taste.

Final Thoughts
One of the biggest advantages of Dim Sum Place at JB City Centre is its location. Being only around a 5 to 10-minute walk from the Woodlands Checkpoint makes it an easy option if you are crossing into JB without a car. You can dine at Dim Sum Place before heading back to Singapore.
Dim Sum Place also has several outlets in Singapore, so you can enjoy their handmade dim sum without necessarily travelling to JB.
Overall, I enjoyed trying the different dishes at Dim Sum Place, especially the Chicken Xiao Long Bao, Chicken Wanton Noodles and Signature DSP Herbal Duck. If you are looking for a halal dim sum restaurant near Woodlands Checkpoint, this is one place you may want to add to your JB food list.
