This stall may not always dominate social media headlines, but among regular customers and nearby residents, it has quietly built a strong reputation over the years. One of the stalls that continues attracting long-time fans is their famous pork porridge stall. Even after so many years, the standard of the pork porridge still tastes just as good as I remembered.

Pork Porridge

The pork porridge has always been one of my classic comfort food favourites. Some dishes may change over time or lose consistency, but this bowl somehow never fails me. The porridge remains smooth, flavourful, and incredibly well-balanced. It has that comforting texture where the rice breaks down beautifully into a silky consistency without becoming overly watery or gluey.

The broth itself carries a rich savoury flavour that feels deeply comforting from the very first spoonful. It is not overly salty or overpowering. Instead, every ingredient works together nicely to create a bowl that tastes simple yet satisfying at the same time.

And then there is the egg.

The moment the egg mixes into the hot porridge, it creates that creamy and velvety texture that honestly makes the bowl even more enjoyable. You know the kind of comforting food moment where you take one spoonful and immediately feel satisfied? This is exactly that type of porridge. Even now, after multiple visits over the years, it still tastes just as good as ever.

There were pork slices, pork liver, and minced meat in the bowl, each adding extra savouriness and depth to the porridge. The combination of ingredients made every spoonful feel rich, hearty, and incredibly satisfying. Together with the pepper and the comforting warmth of the pork porridge, it created a bowl that felt both nourishing and comforting at the same time. Most importantly, they always serve it piping hot, which makes the entire experience even more enjoyable, especially during cool weather.

Macaroni

My son especially likes their macaroni soup, and honestly, I can understand why. At first glance, it may seem like a very simple dish but the macaroni soup here is light, savoury, and incredibly easy on the stomach. The broth has a gentle and soothing flavour making it perfect for days when you want something warm and comforting without feeling too full afterwards.

One detail I particularly liked was the addition of two quail eggs in the bowl. It may sound like a small touch, but it adds extra richness and makes the bowl feel more complete and satisfying. The macaroni itself was cooked nicely too, soft enough to enjoy comfortably while still maintaining a pleasant texture without becoming mushy.

Another thing that stood out was the meatball in the soup. It was surprisingly tasty, juicy, and packed with flavour, adding extra savouriness to the overall bowl. Combined with the warm broth and soft macaroni, it made the dish feel even more hearty and comforting. Most importantly, the soup is always served piping hot. That warmth makes a huge difference.

My Thoughts

The pork porridge is still the star for me, but honestly, the macaroni soup deserves attention too. Both dishes carry that homemade and comforting feeling that makes you want to return again.

At the end of the day, Soon Lee Whitley Food Centre reminds me why simple hawker food can still be incredibly satisfying. Smooth and flavourful pork porridge, comforting macaroni soup, hot bowls served with care, and flavours that remain consistent year after year.
